Vodafone mobile connect 3G data card and Laptop

Hi

Sorry but hope you can help me- I am not a very techie person- but I know that you lopt will give me the`right` answer and a sales person- what they think I want to hear.

Thinking of getting a laptop and giving my children the desktop.

Was looking at one on https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk an AcerTravelmate 2424WXMI- it has a compter shopper best buy-so must be ok.

If you buy it you can get a Vodafone mobile connect 3G data card worth £199, I know i would have to pay £15 a month- but think that should be ok for just surfing the web and chatting on here. I do not download movies or any thing.

If I get one of these cards am I right in thinking I could get rid of my ntl broadband connection and use this card instead. Or would i be better keeping my broadband and going down the wireless router option? Have a friend who says he can set it up for me- would not know where to start!!

The children do go on the web- but supervised and are only 4 and 7. So could use the laptop.

Thanks
April Grocery challange £175

Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.54

I don't think that it would be cost effective to use the Voda card to surf the net in comparison with NTL. For £15 per month you only get 30Mb and then it costs £1.50 for each additional Mb used. Why don't you renegotiate your NTL deal - see the Internet forum. It's easy to get yourself a wireless router and once set up it will do the same for less cost.

This is of dubious help to you, but I use the Vodafone route to connect when I'm working abroad (in Germany, in a town without broadband) and the service is a little patchy, tends to drop out without warning for a couple of minutes etc. etc.

One thing you may want to check out is whether they do a similar deal to what I have - they have a tariff that gives up to 5 Gigabytes for a fixed monthly fee - I pay 29 Euros (around £24)

    Good luck. :)
