We are in a similar situation to you, not the parking thing, thankfully, that is not too bad, we have hardstanding for one car and potentially three if people want to undertake that, as others in the street have.

Our problem is plenty of viewers, loving the house but not the street which gets pretty rough the further down you go, i.e. not looked after, rubbish in gardens, general apathy. Nothing we can do about that at all. We have dropped the price by £25,000, still getting viewers but no offers. We probably could afford to drop the price a bit more (moving to a cheaper area maybe) but are reluctant to do so as we have really improved the property and there is not much needing doing to it. The problem is, every house up our end is different and ours is probably the most expensive as it is biggest. The rough end of the street means that if people do a price check on the road, the average price is much lower.

We need to do a lot of thinking, I wish you luck in your situation.

Ok, I have rung the MP's office today and asked for a call back. I wrote/emailed to her a few months ago, and she responded to say she would make the relevant enquiries and get back to me but I haven't heard anything as yet.

I also rung the council's transport dept. speaking to the guy who came to the resident's meeting in Feb where about 12 of us turned up commenting against the double-yellow lines. He said he'd put our comments forward and take these into consideration in the review of Highway issues this April/May. Of course no one bothers to update us or anything. Anyway he told me that a letter went out to me (and possibly other residents) responding to the queries I'd raised with the MP. I haven't seen this letter and he couldn't email me a copy as 'the lady who can do it isn't here at the moment'. He also couldn't give me a date for when the review takes place (can you see why this has been so hard/frustrating for me?!).

Anyway, the long and the short of it is (I think) that they are going to actually have a proper consultation with all of us over the parking restrictions now, which will take about 6 weeks. Then any changes needing to be made (hopefully removal of some of the double yellow lines) will be implemented. It does sound promising but I don't want to get my hopes up just yet. It could take 2-3 months though, so as with everything I just have to wait and see, but at least it's something.

Write a letter to the local paper mentioning how ineffective she has been.
    :)

There's probably lots of people in similar positions without parking due to the council's actions and MPs inactions.

Oooh ooh got an update and trying not to get too excited...after months of fighting with the council alone (apart from me calling a meeting with the residents and council people in which several residents came and moaned about the lines), the county and district had a meeting amongst themselves and put my recommendation over to remove a small section of the lines on the hill, and it's been agreed in principle!!! It's now subject to a public consultation (the one that they should have done properly in the first place before they slapped the lines on) and fingers crossed I guess if there's no major objection, and more support for this to go ahead, then they will remove part of the lines!!! It may take a while for this to actually happen (I'd say probably 2-3 mths) but at least that's something. :)
