Thanks for the great moneysaving tip. 55p for a tin of meat and 25p for a quarter of pack of pastry - bargain with much more meat.0 -

Pure nostalgia.
They turn up at that price (£1 is more usual), as a special offer quite frequently. See Morrisons, B&M's, Home Bargains etc. They're still not bad either, although the Classic version is definately superior. A good store cupboard stand-by.
Avoid the Princes copy-cat version though."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Well, I found the Limited Edition one today in B&M for 99p so thought it was worth a try.
It was Steak and Onion flavour and it did taste very nice but there is no way it was the same size as the ones you got in the 70's.
We were a family of 3 and used to have a decent helping each.
The one I bought today was no where near enough for 3, it's a good job I cooked a good variety of veg to go with it!
At least I have a pie dish now so that I can make my own next time, at least I will have a bit of filling then.0 -

You were a lot smaller in the 70's. The pies just seemed bigger in those days, just like wagonwheels. We were a family of 3 and used to have a decent helping each.
You, mummy and daddy? At least I have a pie dish now so that I can make my own next time, at least I will have a bit of filling then.
But you've already said that it is too small0 -

Yep but I can make a pie with 3 times more filling in it than there was in the FB one as there was b*gger all filling in it but what there was tasted nice.0 -

Good point.
I think pie manufacturers should be made to put the meat content on the packaging, like sausage makers.
Or better still, the gravy content! What would that do for sales ...."This pie contains 98% gravy"0 -

I think most do put the meat content on the packaging, just checked and said it contained 18% beef!0 -

Wow, thank you, I never knew that.
Just been on the tesco site and a random selection of meat pies showed that they do indeed state the meat content.
The best I found was a tesco own brand chicken pie that has 22% chicken. Pukka pies only have 20% meat!
Perhaps we should start a new thread to find the pies with the most, and least amount of meat in them.0 -
My flatmate at university used to live on these pies.... her dependence on them used to worry me slightly! I have still never been able to bring myself to try one!0
