Fray Bentos Classic steak & kidney pie 475g tin £1.04 tesco - price error ?

Just been to Tesco Express and these were priced at this, not on special offer, maybe cheaper in a normal Tesco.

Couldnt find an exact match on mysupermarket for "classic" and this weight.

Asda seem to have some at £1 in a different variety.

What are these like these days, it must be about 35 years since I had one of these!

All I remember was the top layer was flaky pastry and was very flaky and the bottom was always soft, a bit like when you get a steak and kidney pudding from the chippy (blimey, it's a few years since I had one of those too).

Just wondering if it would be worth getting a few in as a store cupboard standby whilst they are still on offer at Asda (£1 each).

I am def getting old, I have just realised that that they don't have a bottom to them, it must have been the layers underneath near the filling itself that I was thinking of. :o

I buy these occasionally as we all love them, but its a rare treat as they are so fatty. They are brilliant if going on hol to self catering accom, as with tinned carrots and tinned pots they are a very portable evening meal.

chicken curry one is the favourite one in our house, we have them occasionally!yum!
  • I have lifted off the top before now and placed it on a baking sheet (after it has cooked a while) on it's own to crisp up a little more.

The filling never seems enough though :( But they are nice as an occaisional thing. Trouble is, I can eat a whole one to myself.

That's it then, I'm off to Asda today anyway so I think I will pick a couple up and give them a try again.

I remember liking the pies but not so much the tinned Yeoman potatoes that was always served with it in our house. Yuck!
