Arcade Xbox can I use xbox live?

Hi can I join xbox live as I only have the arcade version?

I have a 64mb plug in memory card if thats any good?

yes i believe so,but you cant download demos etc
when you go onto live just select silver membership
it will then offer you a 1 month free trial of gold

Thanks Custardy, I've been out this morning and bought a years gold membership then thought I might not be able to use it.

Good news for those with arcade xbox's you can now use a usb memory stick up to 16gb with your xbox to save game saves demos etc

The Xbox 360 has been updated to support USB storage devices.
As reported last month, the update will allow two drives to be formatted up to 16GB each.
Game saves, downloadable content and full games can now be transferred to the portal devices.
Although most conventional USB devices are supported, SanDisk will release an official Xbox 360 version sometime next month.
The mandatory update has no other reported additions.

for future reference you can get cheaper deals(cheaper than the shops and some are instant) for the 12 month subscription on the internet eg ebay or other sites,
