Trying to re-home your pet?

Hi Everyone,
Are you reluctantly having to find a new home for your pet? Perhaps because of the recession and the rising costs of owning an animal? We’re doing some research for a possible TV programme and we would love to speak to you, in confidence. Please send me a pm and I’ll be happy to explain more.
Many thanks,
Jasmine

No, I would live on beans on toast permanently rather than get rid of the dog!
I know it is a situation some people are sadly finding themselves in though.
Good luck with the TV programme, it sounds like it could be educational and make people think about budgeting sensibly for pet ownership - it does not have to be expensive, but the reality is that all animals are a financial commitment, and one which can be as long term as many mortgages (a puppy or kitten may well be a responsibility for the next 15-20 years!)0 -
I'd sell everything I have before i'd give my dog up, it just wouldn't happen ever.:beer:0

Me too, but would I think I would just have the toast without the beans sometimesChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

not a bad idea... you may become self-propelling if you ate beans at every meal!;)0 -
Nope - and for the RSPCA to suggest that poor people happily abandon their pets when things get touch is one of the most offensive comments they have made for a long time.
An animal is a responsibility. They aren't disposable commodities.
And anyone who shows up on a TV show going 'oh, woe is me; I have to give up all my dogs' when there is a big TV, a car, a big leather sofa, fags, beer, a weight problem, makeup, a manicure or anything else in view will be summarily abused in living rooms across the country.
If you are worth the air you breathe, a pet owner will starve before their pet does - just like a mother will before her children feel hungry. Anyone on benefits can afford to feed an animal. Benefit may not be a lot of money, but it's enough to provide for a dependent animal.
They depend on you. You do not chuck them away. And you certainly don't go wailing to a TV production crew about it and expect anything other than contempt.
[and - breathe: kicks soapbox under sofa and sheepishly walks off, blushing]I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I must have my cynical hat on today as your post hit a nerve
On reading the OP I immediately thought of the ways that tv programme could/would be twisted. What are the chances of it being an educational respectful look at people who have hit hard times and can't cope? I think the programme will be as you have described above.
Have people forgotton Pedigree Dogs Exposed already? I would bet that none of the showing/breeding fraternity who were interviewed for that show thought the end result would be like it was. Be aware anyone who sells their soul for 15 minutes of fame! :eek:If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
We have had a number of pre-owned pets move in with us in the last 14 months but I do not think its the recession - more often in our experience it about thoughtless and/or selfish acquisition in the first place.
A cat who moved in and when we found its owners they have left it with us. Feb 2009. It had been homed to them and they had not bonded with it and appeared not to want the hassle of trying to settle it in.
Three rabbits rehomed to us as the orginal owners lost interest. April 2009
ex battery hens we take from a rescue society May 2009 -commercial consequence
A bunny dumped nearby. Dec 2009 - It's friend was eaten (sadly the remains were evident)
A lovely dog - who came from a good loving home who are now to ill to exercise him. Feb 2010 - a genuine case of them acting in the dog's interests.
Sorry OP - perhaps cynically I can forsee the !!!!less dressing up their crass decison making as 'hardship'.0
