ID theft

I wonder if anyone can give me advice. Some time ago someone got into our bank account and paid off bills with our money .we got the money back but ever since we have been having debt agencies sending letters addressed to another person using our address.I have contacted the debt agencies and they have made a note of this. Now I am getting worried about our credit rating and dreading bailiffs turning up.Should i be informing the police?

Credit rating will not be affected if the name is different. Personally I would open the letters and keep contacting the debt recovery companies. Ignore anyone who tells you it is illegal to open the letters, it isn't.
