in Credit cards
Hello
I have never had a credit card before. In fact I have never had a loan, overdraft, or any sort of "lending" other than my mortgage which I overpay as often as I can so it goes down quicker.
However, I have decided I should have a credit card because I use the www a lot to purchase goods and while my debit card has always sufficed I have heard that if anything happens to go wrong then I'm not covered/insured like I would be with a credit card.
Having had a quick read about credit cards on this site it seems the best one for me would be one that pays/"rewards" me cashback as I don't have a balance to transfer from a current card and I will ALWAYS pay the card off in full each month (as I would just use it like my debit card and ensure the right amount of money is transferred to cover the cost of whatever I'm purchasing).
Does anyone have any advice/suggestions on which would be the best card for me to apply for? Or indeed, if I am totally wrong, suggest something other than a "cashback" type card.
Many thanx in advance.

often the best cards requie you to already have one
so try your bank for any old card, use it regularly, pay in full (preferrably by DD) and on time and later apply for the 'best' one for your circumstances.0 -
Clapton hi
Thanx for your answer. But given my circumstances which is the best card for me?
It doesn't have to be the best on the market - just the best one for me at this moment in time given my circumstances. I know nothing about credit cards as I've never had one and the credit card arena seems to be such a minefield.
Thanx0 -
Well to be honest mate sub-prime cc would be the perfect answer maybe VANQUIS,or CAPITAL 1..0

...yes, I agree, you dont have a choice to what card you can have because you are new to this, so Vanquis, capital one

I am in a similar position and was advised by the lovely people on this board that the bank where your main current account is held will almost always give you the best credit card to start you off as they have a history of your spending to hand. Others will run a credit report on you and without any credit background you will likely be rejected. I am talking from recent personal experience having aimed quite high (Amex Platinum Cashback) and been rejected.
As Clapton says above, get one through your bank and use it for a while carefully, be a model borrower and you'll be in better stead to get a top-end card after a year or so.0
