We have some friend coming to visit from Australia in May and they are staying in a farmhouse in East Meon, Hampshire. Can anyone recommend a good place to eat around this area of Hampshire? We would like to show them a good old English type of Pub with good food if possible. Thanks for any help.

What counts more? Some one who actually eats there...or a local paper who probably didn't get a freebie...lol (guess what? I don't think very much of the News' opinion on anything..he he)
seriously though, we have eaten there quite a few times lately. (And have been visiting on and off for over 20 years)
Mon-Fri you can get a free dessert with a main so £6.95, and they have quite a choice.
And good beers as well. Gets my vote, but only an opinion.0 -
I haven't been there for a while, but also consider the White Horse in a field in the middle of nowhere near Priors Dean, and more often known as http://www.pubwithnoname.co.uk/0

A lovely pub we go to is The Hurdles, in Droxford, not too far from Meon.. they have a website
www.thehurdles.co.uk we found it a couple of summers ago and keep going back.
Enjoy the summer with your friends..0 -
........." the harrow " in steep petersfield, about 15 mins drive is a fav of ours, its been in the dodd family for over 100yrs, and the menu hasnt changed, quaint little pub, with a river walk, selling local cider, and the menu hasnt changed in forever, im 37 and ytake my kids there, but my dad took me there when i was little .... same food!!( obviously not "the " same" basic menu of pluohgmans, saldas ,soup to die for, but 1 bowl would serve 2!!! lovely little garden, all homemade... slightly odd staff, but that adds to the quaintness of it!!0
