I was wondering the same. I just saw the link in another thread and seems good. I just realised the sell it at books etc. might pop in next week and see if they have it.0

I've seen this on gadget sites for quite a while. It seems good, I'm just wanting to know what the catch is. To get the best value go for a .com domain as then are normally more expensive if you were to buy them anyway.
I think it may be a good starter pack if you know nothing. I wouldn't recommend it if you have many items to sell. If you had under 20 products that don't really change that much I think it is not a bad starter.
Anything more substantial it would not be enough and provide a lot of hassle to use and be very time consuming.
In my shop I have all my listings in a database and if you have any number of products this is the best way to go. I have over 500 products with about 30 potential options for each product.
In conclusion I have not used this. I think it may be a good jumping off ground for someone who has not much web design skills and if you don't have much selection in your shop. I don't think it's quite as easy as it seems. If your business was to grow it would outgrow it quite quickly but then I suppose you could switch to something else. Also it's good to get something up on the web quickly to let it get out there, and maybe come back to it later and update. This would give you a quick easy website to just sit there until you have the time and money to do it properly.
If you get one let us know. I'd be interested in buying it for a present.
Kind regards0 -
It's a good idea I guess, but you can get custom design cheaper than you think if you look in the right places.
I don't know if I like the idea of buying everything all-in-one, probably because I don't like templates, I believe that web design should be a unique and customised thing.0 -

Check out Mr site. https://www.mrsite.co.uk EXCELLENT!!!
Have to say I'm in agreement with alley-cat. I first found out about https://www.mrsite.co.uk when I saw a website I particularly liked and followed the (tiny) link at the bottom to find out who'd designed it, I liked it that much.
Unless you want a website that has particularly technical in-depth features which really do require the services of a web design team, I'm kicking myself that we didn't use these guys earlier for our 2 sites.
Now not only do we pay more, and have to liaise between our (ever friendly and patient) registration company, in the US, our website hosting company (in the UK) and mess about constructing the website ourselves. Very time consuming! (Great way to learn html) I reckon For 99% of small businesses, or businesses that simply want a few pages to be able to explain and advertise their business and give it a presence on the web, and individuals wanting the same, https://www.mrsite.co.uk are probably the best out there for value for money.
They've also been tried out and reviewed, and highly recommended by the Telegraph, Time Out, The Times. The Independent, Richard & Judy, News of the World, Daily Star, NME, & metro.
And no, I don't work for them, just know they're worth a recommendation.0 -
Cool. Looks good. I still think it's a good starter, but if you sell a lot of products with a lot of options and update regularly it can be quite time-consuming to update and you'd need content mangement/database setup.
Makes a good cheap stylish brochure site or simple eshop. I'm impressed!0 -
TBH after having looked at those examples, I can see that if you want a real professional website, you should still employ the services of a professional designer, they are not all as expensive as some people make out.
In my opinion, some of these websites simply don't look clean and professional enough.0 -

Some of them don't look clean and professional enough sure. But Some do look quite good, it's what you do with it. Don't judge a tool by people who cannot use it. This is making me sound like I'm promoting this which I'm not (I'm still in the hunt around for a good web designer by word of mouth camp) but you cannot dismiss it that easily. Also I've seen many professionally designed sites and I think why would anyway pay for that?
I don't think you'd get webdesigner to do a site for £35 including a years hosting and domain registration. Also many web designers who do cheap functional sites use generic templates that they tweak, that's why you are getting it cheap. Same idea really. If you want a nice design then you end up paying for it some way.
My point some small businesses cannot afford even £200 (I've yet to see a ecommerce site for under £350 from a web designer).
If the alternative is not to have a website, then it's £35 well spent. It can do as a temp measure until your business takes off or you have more funds. It can get you out there even if it's just content which is key on the web.
I also think it's a good way to put your feelers out and see if there is a market for you business too. What's the point spending lots of money on a website and you then realise your business is not going to take off.
I'm still promoting well designed professional sites but I think this has a use for many people out there. I think this generic website you can put together yourself will have some webdesigners worried.
Good luck whatever you decide. Make up your own mind.
If you want to ask me any more questions PM me.0 -
Is there a difference between buying this product and buying it off Ebay (£10 cheaper)?
I wouldn't consider this for my "big project", but might be handy for a smaller idea to see how it goes without investing a lot of money.0 -

Yeah but some of us sit and work our fingers to the bone every time doing a layout completely from scratch and charge far too little for it.

I've just finished my site using mrsite, and I have to say I've found it a doddle to build, and I think it looks pretty darn good! (but then I would!:rotfl: :rotfl: )0
