In our bedroom is a sort of basic built in wardrobe made by the builders. It has 27" louvred doors that harbour dust and intrude too much in to the room when open. We want to replace the two doors with three and fit the robe 2/3 hanging 1/3 shelves. The existing robe will have to be stripped out and the new doors would reach almost to the ceiling. Above the doors about 56" of wide coving would be required.
How much do you reckon a freasoable charge would be for all thisi? I do not want anything too posh and I live near Bournemouth

have you tried Custom World out on Ferndown Industrial estate? They advertise in the free paper each week, For a full length wardrobe up to about 10ft wide they charge £745 I think including fitting, you choose how you want to split the interior with shelves/hanging during their survey. We've covered one wall with it a few years back, about 9ft wide by 8ft high, assoerted shelving and different hanging lengths then you choose which doors you want mirrored or plain in varying woods. Cost us £700 back then

There has been inflation since then to take account of. Thanks for reply. I see that there is another in Ferndown-1st Choice Fitted Bedrooms-have you had any vibes about them?0 -
well it's still standing and takes a lot of hefty use from a small boy sliding the doors back and forwards. We used them as we have a chimney breast in the room so buying seperate wardrobes was costing lots and this was teh simple solution. they don't have backs or sides, they use the walls in our house for that, though if you need them to have an edge then they put an end in the same wood on them. the cost is still only £745, the adverts run in the Bournemouth Advertiser each week. The only difference in prices I think are if you choose to have different door configurations, i.e we have 2 wooden doors with a centre mirror door. Ours was completed in 2004, we are moving in next few weeks and likely to get the same installed in the next house for much the same reasons and because we were happy with the work.0

Thanks W_T, actually we'll probably go for openers rsther than sliders, but your recommendation has made me contact them for a visit at start of Sep. They seem quite busy.0

Well it seems that its around £1200 per 'robe with all the local ones I contacted. With some the framing would come our in front of where it is now (effectively the buils over the old frame, so losing about half the space gained by replacing 2 27" doors by 3 18" but the current ugly end of the gyproc coving would be eliminated, One will strip out the exisitng frame and construct the new 'robes. I would not lose so much of the benefit of exchanging the doors. The coving would be continued along over the new 'robes.
I like the less obtrusive solution, the one with the coving above, but have a question. The prest coving is stuck to both ceiling and wall, but AFAICS the new bit above the new 'robes will have no wall to stick to, only the ceiling.
Will it hold with modern adhesives?
Cost to have supplied and fixed?0
