There were, but now he's got them all it seems. Are there no other microsoft updates to install?
Laptop is still problemous when opening his emails in MS Outlook 2003, ie it 'hangs'. The only way to get out of that situation is for him to hold down the on/off button until it pwers down and then reboot.0 -
Can you please run through the problem?
Does it 'hang' as soon as its opened (ie, nothing at all can be selected)
Googlemail is fed to it now? Has it 'hanged' ever since its been sent to outlook?:idea:0 -
No it doesn't, it gives him about 40 seconds in which to click and view individual emails, but these are not the new emails, they are existing ones. As soon as it starts the send/receive process, that's when it hangs. Can you please run through the problem?

Thanks for your help with this one.
He's decided to reset it back to factory standard and it seems to be ok now. He decided not to use MS Outlook as the email client, instead opting for Virgin mail as the client. That seems to be operating ok.
However, there is stll a notably long time between shutting it down and it actually shutting down. I looked around on Google and it seems that this is common with Vista and there is a suggestion that it might be cured by adjusting a setting in the registry that defines the amount of seconds before it is forcibly shutdown.
Then I came across the following link that describes how to activate a listing of what is shutting down on exit. Would you have a look at this and let me know what you think?

Give it a go if you wish. It should simply give a report on whats happening as it shuts down:idea:0
