Removing the seal on a shower screen

Hi, I wondered if anyone could advise on how to remove the rubber seal attached to the bottom of a shower screen. When new, it appears that the seal could have been removed by simply sliding it out from the the plastic base fitting at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, the rubber seal has corroded over time and is proving extremely difficult to remove.
I should be grateful if anyone here could offer some pointers as to the best method of removing the old seal.
Many thanks.

Hi, do you think it's just a case of taking the shower screen off the wall and picking out the old rubber with a stanley knife? I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks.0 -
Hi,
well you're going to have to get all the old brittle stuff removed first, so if that is an easy option, then go for it, it may also make it easier to fit the new seal.
Does new seal slide into a channel in bottom of door, or does it slide over bottom of door?

Hi frugalmacdugal, thanks for your post with diagrams.
I am trying to remove the old rubber seal first before I can fit the new rubber seal. The problem I have involves removing the old seal which slides into a channel at the bottom of the shower screen as per your first diagram. The new seal will also slide into this channel.
I think that the only way I am going to remove the old seal is to take the shower screen off the wall and dig out the seal with a knife. I just wondered if there was a lotion or liquid solution that I could put on the old rubber to make it easier to remove?
Many thanks.0 -
Hi,
can you get to the underneath at all, I would try to run a thin blade, screwdriver, along each side of the seal, it'll be a bit gunged up, work some washing up liquid into groove and if you can get a grip on it with a pair of pliers just pull, it'll probably break into bits but you should get it out.
Then make sure channel is clean before sliding in new seal, again using washing up liquid.0 -
Removing the screen from the wall has got to be the most convenient way of dealing with the seal and also replacing it with a new one.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
could try warming it up with a hair drier and gripping it with a pair of pliers.0

Thanks, I'll give all of your suggestions a go.0
