Can anyone help me send an audio file by email?

Hi all,

I'm having probs trying to send an email and i'm sure i must just be doing something thick!

i'm trying to send an audio file by email- I have remote access outlook through uni. i attach it and it just doesn't load- the box looks like it's loading but it's taking like 1/2 an hour so far :(

my computer is generally fine and normal i think lol

it is a big file i suppose- 2 hours long- so i made a copy and turned it into a 'compressed' file - even though tbh i have no idea what that means :o

please help me i can't do computers!:rotfl:

How big is the file in MB? And what format is it compressed in?

Generally speaking, large files shouldn't be send over email. You should use a file sharing site like http://www.yousendit.com/ or http://rapidshare.com/

it says compressed size 23,999 KB

    is that good or bad?

i think file sharing sites may be beyond my abilities...

Well, it's not huge, but it's too big to send over email really, especially if the person receiving it isn't expecting it

Anyway, it's easy to share the files, in YouSendIt just put in the email address of the person you're sending it to, and then select the file to upload. It will generate a link where the file can be downloaded from and automatically email it to the recipient.

Well it used to be free, and looks like you still can get a free account. Go to Sign Up and select the 'Lite' version, it shouldn't ask you for any payment information.

Even if you do manage to send it, you risk it being rejected by the receiver's e-mail provider at that size; might exceed their maximum message size.....

Download Audacity, split it into manageable chunks, and send them separately.

Or copy the chunks to CD, and mail the CD(s)

Don't confuse the issue. The OP is sending only the link to the upload, so there is no file to be rejected.

One word - HJSPLIT - it is small and free. Another option is QUICKPAR (but has a bit of a learning curve, then there is also the size splitter in winrar too

Gmail did support up tu 10Mb attachment. My previous isp also supported up to 10Mb, however this was really a 7Mb file but by the time all the mail headers etc were wrapped around, made the file 10Mb in size
