Should the EA given me the other bidders name??

Hi all!

I was on the phone to the EA today chatting about the situation we are in and she let slip the other parties name involved in the bidding war(I think she was un-aware of what she had done)! I didn't acknowledge the name (but wrote it down) and she continued in conversation with me.

Surely this was a bad move on her part? Should I take this further and use it as an advantage??

ADVICE!!!!!
Problem of the week!

My laptop keeps on telling me it has an ip address conflict with another computer on my network and its driving me mad trying to sort it out!!! Any suggestions PM me please!

do houses sell based on the name of bidders where you are? I'm not sure what advantage you expect from knowing someones name (unless the other name is Mervyn King or something)

It was probably a slip of the tongue, but I don't get how you'd use it to your advantage either?

The name of any other bidder doesn't matter. Maybe this is a sales tac, making you think you have an upper hand because they let slip some information. A salesmans trick.
  • Well...........the name was very unusual, and when I mentioned it to a friend he thought it sounded familer to him.
He later told me that he knew the name because the guy was a little "cook-coo"! I have searched the BT phonebook online and only one match came up in the whole of my county. He only lives 5 minutes from my house so I took a walk past the house. It was.......well, a bit of a wreck but there was someone living there.

Now I know that this person could have a son or the buyer could be from another part of the country compleatly! BUT, the way this bidding war has gone, is like a circus....It's just got totally out of hand witch is making me think that there could be someone who just bids on property for fun because they are a little....strange!!!??!?!

Yeah OKAY! So I may sound a bit nuts to think such a thing but the situation my girlfriend and I are in is also crazy!!

    I dunno.........I really don't know!

Am I grabbing for some rationalisation........yeah I think I am!

....god i'm cracking up myself!! LOL

 I think you might be reading into things a bit too much. Estate agents should verify a potential buyer's position before asking a vendor to consider an offer.

Fact is, you don't know how the name is spelt where the person comes from or whether the person is ex-directory. Stalking people isn't going to get you a house! Even if you know who it is, how would you even contemplate 'outing' them as a timewaster without appearing slightly unhinged yourself?

If it is getting out of hand, ask the agent why it hasn't got to sealed bids yet. Then you can offer your best price and walk away if needs be. To something a little less complicated ;)

    Just a little bit :o

You'll have some news soon either way. Then you can enjoy the other perils of house buying!
