Help RE:- Next

I purchased some goods last week to be delivered today. I rang them as they hadnt been delivered and they said the Courier had delivered them on Saturday and that my partner had signed for them.

My partner was at work when they were supposed to have been signed for and no one was at the property as before we started work we went to buy a pushchair. Which we can provide them with the receipt.

What are our rights? the courier 'or someone' has signed for the goods and are lying by saying we were in

Help would be greatly appreciated. We have asked for a copy of the signature and the courier is supposed to be coming tomorrow.

The goods were £20 not much to come but im more concerned about them signing wor names.

Well, you could try contacting the courier company to see if they can offer any help or advice, but your contract is with the company you purchased the item from, the fact that they used an untrustworthy courier isn't your problem, they have failed to get the items to you.

What are the company your bought from saying about the matter?
  • There saying its the couriers fault, when we have said we'l provide the proof that we werent in they changed to saying the courier cant remember who he delivered it to. If we want the stuff we have to pay again until the investigation closes.

The courier is coming tomorrow hence why I want to get as much advice on the problem.

Should we show him the receipt that we were in a different place?

I have often had Next deliveries left outside the front door or lobbed over the back fence, even though I have always specified leave with our next door neighbour when I order. I was in once when this happened - the courier didn't even ring the doorbell, I saw him walk up the path, then heard a thud out back a few seconds later. It is a joke.

That is terrible. I really like buying things and having it sent to me, rather than going to the shops.

But I dread the day something similar happens to me.

So far, touch wood, I have always received my goods. Where ever I purchase from.

I think Next Directory use Hermes as their courier. I have had no problems with Hermes, but a quick search on this site will show otherwise.

Can you please keep us updated. Surely a mail order company can't just turn round and say, you signed for it when you did not? Good luck by the way.

I once had a parcel from Amazon never appear despite being 'signed for'. It was a nightmare because it was over £300 of electricals for christmas presents. Anyway, I demanded to see the signature as proof because no one in the house had signed nor had the neighbours. They swiftly backed down and gave a full refund.

absolutely, ask for proof of signature to be faxed to you as you are disputing signing for it.

You may have to prove the signature is not yours if the courier has used your surname to sign for it but you should be able to do this via passport or driving license
    Always ask ACAS

You obviously need to find out what the signature looks like and take it from there.

But if you can't resolve this with the courier then go back to Next. Your contract is with them, not the courier and don't be fobbed off by their attempts to wriggle out of any responsibility. They've chosen to use that particular courier; any problems with a non-delivered item need to be resolved by Next not you.

  • Well the courier agreed that it was someone else. So we have to wait for a letter then they are going to credit account. Just have to watch this space :A
  • Get back on the phone to Next. You'll still be waiting next year if you're waiting on the courier to say it was their fault.
