What is the difference between having a merchant account and not having one? Is there a big cost difference? Which is recommended?0

Using a 3rd party will usually cost a few % extra.
If you use a 3rd party then they will authorise the transaction, and if they make a mistake will claim the funds back.
If you have your own merchant account you personally will authorise the transaction (and often can be more critical) therefore spotting fraudulent sales.
Obviously for BIG volume traders the above does not apply.
Which is best for you depends on your products, margins and sales.0
