Any free video editors that are better than Windows Moviemaker?

I've been using Moviemaker for a while.
I find that it struggles once the video has a lot of edits. At the moment I've had to split a 6 minute video into 2 x 3minute parts and join them back together in another project.
Otherwise it locks up when it's time to save the output file.
I'm not too bothered about features, I just want to be able to do basic splicing and fading. Reliability is the key feature.

I've used VirtualDub for cutting up videos in the past, it's fine for that but not much else0

Videospin by Pinnacle is worth a look - it's basically free but extra codec support is available for a few quid. It's nicely laid out with options to save your videos or upload to Youtube, etc.0

usually movie maker starts to struggle once the size of the project gets too big - Have you updated WMM to the latest version? Also I think there is a way of increasing the virtual memory it uses (sure I read it in the WMM community forums somewhere).Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
