Help... I have Marestail/horsetail growing everywhere.Dont know what to do
Hi everyone.
im in desperate need for advice. i have Marestail/horsetail growing all over my garden and theres ALOT of it. i moved into the property in Jan so im still getting to grips with the garden but its getting out of control.
Does anyone have any experiance of killing it, and getting grass to grow back for the summer. i have tried normal weed killer and its not doing anything.
thanks

I've got it too all over my allotment. I believe that you can get weedkiller to work a little better on it but to do this you have to break 'the skin' of the weed .trample it first to allow the weedkiller to get in to the plant it's self as it apparently has a coating that stops it being penetrated if you don't do this.
You could try digging it out but the roots will be all over the place and its hard to get all of it as they can go down a long way (feet), they are black so not easily seen and have a nasty tendency to snap before you get it all.
Because they thrive in heavy, acidic clay soil I've been told that if you can get the ground to drain better it may put the plant off.......I'm going to try sharp sand and possibley some lime to make the soil less acidic>>>> will this work? no idea0 -
i had it last year, what i did was pull it up everytime i seen it, through the summer it still grew but everytime it seemed to be weaker, not seen a hint of it so far this year .0
