When I say a mess, Im saying its a complete mess that could easily be compromising data (impossible to say as it appears to be quite unique to what ive seen before)

You need an operating system disc or a backup to be able to wipe and start afresh (if an operating system disc, you also require a legit windows passkey for it to work)

If thats your train of thought you may as well go ahead with the combofix log (once youve backed up everything you want to keep like photos etc)

mmm just tried the combofix drag and drop, but unfortunately it didn't seem to want to do anything. When I opened notrepad it had all the gobbldygook again which may be the reason :(

Can you explain what you mean by this ~ "it had all the gobbldygook again "

A new hardrive would be great, if you could put an operating system on it

Sorry I think I mentioned this in a different thread. When I go to open notepad it asks me to 'open with', from which I then choose notepad, but when notepad opens rather than opening a blank page it has all sorts of crazy stuff in it such as ò¨ä5ò¨ä5òkë:ò©ä5

Ahh forgot about that, doh! I'm at the point where I might just go out and buy a new laptop rather than spend more time trying to fix this banjaxed badboy. Not very MS though!

It would take quite a bit of time, but you should be able to manually remove all those items in red
Goto the locations listed and remove what items you can. Those you cant, you can use the malwarebytes tool to force remove them ~
    Open malwarebytes
    Goto MORE TOOLS
then RUN TOOL and manually search for and remove the items left

Look at the fix for the registry here in your other thread, when you click on notepad or anyother prog eg IE or firefox you should not get "open with". This is a registry error.
