AVOID Crown Emulsion paint

B&Q are running a promo at the moment. 10 litres matt emulsion for £10.

The paint is okay as paint ... except it's suposed to be Magnolia and it isn't. It's a horrible cheesy cream colour instead.

I'll agree with the OP on this one , I wanted a creamy coloured paint for my daughters bedroom so bought this and did one wall before deciding it was just wasnt right , more beige/yellow than cream but not yellow enough to be lemon (which would have also been suitable) . great paint if your not too worried about it being the right colour though

Magnolia is not a defined colour.

What one company call Magnolia is not what another company call Magnolia.
Hence you have purchased Crowns 'Magnolia' which will differ from Dulux, Johnstones etc.

I was going to say that cream is cream is cream, but then I remembered that I am the woman who took about 10 matchpots in different shades of cream before I decided which one to paint the living room.

For the record, we ended up with Dulux buttermilk.

Crown make sooooo many of the own label paints, that I was surprised at the poor 'whiteness' & difficulty to apply, their low odour 5lts, when I had some BOGOF.

Compared to the Focus standard white emulsion at similar price (made by Crown the store said) it was not Moneysaving whatsoever.

But no probs all the Focus own coloured though.

The worst experience we everhad was with Focus paint on BOGOF! Every pot of one colour was a different colour and the wall was huge! We repainted it twice before we gave up and painted it magnolia (or cheesy cream ;)). Probably a good thing tbh, I hate brown anyway. It was obviously telling me something!

The only time I like brown is when it's made of chocolate. I'd happily paint that on the walls!

  • We bought two large tubs of the crown magnolia because it was a cheesy cream colour and was even cheaper then B&Q value magnolia. We wanted cheesy cream and are pleased with the colour now its on several walls!

There are totally different shades of magnolia most have a green tinge to them but some have a warmer yellow. But its just magnolia which is kinda creamy no matter what make you use!

    All:

Magnolia is normally considered to be a very, very faint pink, or possibly peach. The Crown and Dulux websites both show this.

The B&Q/Crown magnolia really was something else again. But if it suits ... good luck to you !
