I turn 60 in June this year. I already know that I am not entitled to my pension until September.
Umm !
I am 63, I have paid my full stamp all my life. I don't get my state pension for more than another year - why ? because I am male, but I am told that discrimination because of gender is illegal - pull the other one0 -

This is why a) the womens' pension age is increasing to 65 in the next five years and b) why things like Pension Credit, bus passes and free prescriptions have always been available to both genders from age 60.
The age for receiving these benefits is also rising in line with the rise in womens' pension age until everybody gets everything at 65 (and later at 68).
So the discrimination in age is being dealt with.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I will be 60 in December 2010 and will not receive my State Pension until September 2011. A nine month wait as there is a sliding scale depending on when your birthday falls.
I already receive free prescriptions because I have a Medical Exemption Certificate but I need my eyes testing this year and I was thinking I would hang on until December to save the £25 my optometrist charges. Will I not get a free eye-test until September 2011? This does not seem fair as my husband who turned 60 last year gets his eye test (and prescription) free.0 -
Your husband was 60 before April 6th 2010 and therefore comes under the old rules. You are under the new ones.
There has to be a cut-off point somewhere. Eventually no-one will get these things until they are 65.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I am really disappointed! I thought there was going to be advantages to turning 60 but it seems I need to be 60 and three quarters.0
