Cleaning my black slate hearth and my flat screen tv.

Hi,

SPRING CLEANING!!:j
I have three questions that some of you clever folk might be able to help me with.

1) I have a one piece black slate hearth. I don't think it has ever been sealed. So I want to seal it - I read that you can do this with linseed oil - (has anyone any advice on this?), but first I want to get off it marks like finger prints and grease from candle wax. Somewhere I read that WD40 would do the trick - any opinions on this? I am very nervous about ruining/marking or scratching it, but right now it doesn't look that good and it's a shame.

2) When I had the victorian cast iron fire fitted the fitters left a gap between the cast iron and the surround of about 1 inch wide and the whole width of the insert. I now realise that if they'd have cut into the hearth I wouldn't have been left with the inch gap - but since I have it (it was over a year ago they fitted it and I've only just got round to sorting it out) I thought I'd paint it. I want it the same colour as the cast iron - would stove paint be a good idea or should I just get black paint? Any suggestions.

3) I'm going to come over as such a bimbo here, but as I want help I'm going to ask anyway. I cleaned my flat tv screen with pledge. It said on the bottle I could use it on a tv, but obviously it meant the cathode ray type. Hmmmm. so now I have a great big greasy smear across my screen. I have tried diluted soapy water as it says in my tv instructions, but it hasn't worked. Any ideas?

Many thanks guys. T

Yes you use boiled linseed oil

I seem to recall you rubbed it on and them a few hours later rubbed off with a warm cloth. I check first though as its been a while since I did mine
