Yes, 0844 numbers are just telephone numbers and Primus will be quite happy to take their cut of every call you make to that sort of dial code.

At the moment, you'd still be able to use the indirect access providers 1899, 18185 and 18866 as well (Primus has given Martin a written guarantee that they will continue to allow such access "at least until then end of 2010").
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I guess what your trying find out is do Primus charge the same price to call 0844 numbers as BT.

Without the tariff info its hard to tell. They certainly charge more to call 0845/0870 numbers.

I think you misunderstand but, in any case, I'd advise you to check out the override providers 1899, 18185 and 18866's prices for calling your overseas destinations. You may find their per-minute rates the same or, possibly, cheaper than whichever 0844 provider you're currently using.

The bonus with the override providers is, of course that, unlike 0844 gateways numbers, you don't start paying for the call before you have even entered the first digit of your target number (charging starts after you've dialled the 11th digit of any gateway number).
