100% Mortgages

This is just a thread out of pure interest.
We've started saving now for our first home, but it will take about a decade to save a deposit and we were joking that by the time we save it 100% mortgages will be back anyway
So do you think they'll come back or have the banks learned their lesson? My husband thinks they will, but I don't think they will for another 10yrs at least.

- Never say never
- I would have voted for looooooooong time if it was available!0 -

I voted that they 100% mortgages will return but not for a long time.
I think they will come back because the world of finance seems to have a short term memory, as per the regular boom and bust cycles of share prices and the housing market. You'd have thought a lesson would have been learned but at some stage, amnesia will kick in.
House building is not remotely keeping pace with household and population growth so the pressure on prices, caused by future limited supply and higher demand, will mean that the banks will have to respond in some way to stimulate the market and buyers will always seek shortcuts to get onto the ladder.0 -
I'd say within two years.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

i voted yes but not for along time. I really don't think 100% mortgages were an issue its the 100+ mortgages that were an issue and the criterias used when assesing who to lend to.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

The 100%+ mortgages were not sustainable given house prices were and still are artificiality high, they were okay in a rising house price market
They may be back but not for long time0 -
I'll say it will come back and probably soon. Last year, there needed about 10% deposit for a decent(-ish) mortgage rates....now 5% seems more the norm.....so personally, I think it''ll come back soon.
Banks tend to forget easily why we are in the current mess....0 -
If your in a steady job with a stable income and can afford the repayments then its not a problem, why people have voted for them to come back but not now makes no difference, we havent seen 100% percent mortgages for 3 years, if you dont fit the critera now why will you be happier in few years?
The sooner ftb's get back on the market the sooner the market will recover, im not saying throw mortgages at everyone, but ones who have a good steady job and a stable income then yes 100% mortgages should be back now.
I dont think they should be back for btl investors and the like.
Its okay people saying not now but in the future, but there are loads of people who have had their lives on hold for the last 3 years, i think thats long enough and the first time buyers should be given a chance to buy their first property.0 -

Can you find a decentsih rate for 5%?!! Or even 10% for that matter!
We've just found a decentish rate for 15% and have had to get together 45k for that (it wasnt easy)
I think people should save for a deposit- Whats wrong with saving for something you want to buy?
10% deposits should be saved.
To the OP - just to clarify- are you asking if we think 100% mortgages will be available or if they Should be available?
I dont think they will be for a long time (but may wel be eventually) I dont think they should ever be availableplease excuse my username- my husband set it to the email account when he was young free and stooooopid0
