Hi i have had the petporte for 2 weeks now and i think its fab, i go to bed reasurred that its only my cats that can get in, i have seen them pushing the door with there head before the buzzer goes off to unlock for them and i can rest assured no bully cat will batter there way through the lock... Highly recommend :)

There is a review in Catworld magazine 2 months ago of both microchip catflaps. Both got very good right ups. The only minus point on the petporte was that its a mains one (with a backup) where as the sureflap uses batteries so running a lead on the petporte to a socket can be annoying. The only minus with the sureflap was they thought the tunnel the cat goes through would be a bit tight for larger cats.

Glad to see this thread - this is something I've been thinking about getting. We're having trouble with a cat who either 1) chases the cats into the house, or 2) sneaks into the house, comes upstairs, and attacks them outside our bedroom door. (Fun way to wake up)

Couple of questions for anyone with experience of them...

How quickly do they trigger? Hobbes tends to run at our current flap in a blind panic. If his aim is off and he doesn't get through first time, he gives up and backs himself against the door for a confrontation. I don't want to make it any harder for him to get in.

Is it going to be a problem that the hole for our current flap is quite high off the ground? (PVC door, big frame + small step down to the patio)

i have the pet porte and its not instant in opening i would say 3-5 seconds, they tend to push the door with there heads a couple of times then bleep goes, havent had to deal with them being chased through it yet.

I've got one. Unfortunately, it no longer works the way it should. My cats got through endless collars and couldn't work out how it worked. As a result, they no longer wear collars and the catflap works as a normal catflap due to one of my cats "busting" through it and breaking it. A lot of money to spend on something that lasted about a week, especially as i could have bought a normal one for half the price! Just my experience though.

I'm confused why are you talking about collars. This thread is about catflaps that operate on a cats microchip not their collars. I assume you've got a little confused

I agree with clancy in that the flap isn't instant opening. It usually takes a couple of seconds to bleep once Lily is under the outside porch that reads the chip. We have the old version petporte, I don't know if the new smart flap is any better.

I too have had a pet porte cat flap for about two years. The bully cat used to come in and spray and sleep in my cat's bed, and my cat would be outside in the cold. The petporte has been brilliant, worth its weight in gold.

Odd question. Do these flaps work both ways? I.e if there was one cat that I didn't want to let out, but another that was free to come and go would it stop cat 1 from leaving? or do they just control entry?

At the moment the flap doesn't control exit, only entry. Apparently the smart flap is going to get an optional extra at some point so that you can control exit.

Taken from the user guide of the smart flap that can be found here http://www.petporte.com/pdf/PP0203UserGuide.pdf

**2) Selective exit: As well as selective entry, an optional accessory to allow only
programmed cats to leave the house will soon be available. Vital if you have a
poorly animal yet still want to give other animals their freedom**
