Credit Card Novice - Airmiles Duo

Hi

I am thinking of getting the Airmiles Duo card - but have one question.

I read on this website that it's bad for your credit rating if you do not use the card, and that you should cancel any cards you are not using.

As I would be getting 2 cards with the Duo, does this mean I need to use BOTH regularly?

I very much doubt I would. I would use the Amex whereever possible, and the Mcard when Amex is not available. But I am worried that this would mean one card would be stale!

Advice pls!!

AMEX platinum or centurian give the best frequent flyer plans as they give you free use of airport lounges as well as preferential upgrades with some airlines.

    Thanks Tyler

Although I am more worried about the credit scoring issue - not if there is a better reward scheme

I need to know if not using one of the 2 cards in the deal is a "bad" thing to do.

if you are worried about it choose a card with simlar benefits with only 1 card.

For example, what about the Tesco Clubcard Mastercard? An airmiles rep told me on the phone that they are better for collecting airmiles than their own credit card!

The AirMiles Duo card comes with 2 pieces of plastic - but it only comes with 1 credit account - so you don't have any more 'credit cards' with an AirMiles Duo account than you do with any other credit card account that only sends you 1 piece of plastic to use.

The only reason you get two cards with AirMiles Duo is so you can get a higher reward earning on the American Express, but you also get a MasterCard to use in case the AmEx isn't accepted, just at a lower reward earning rate.

Any transactions you make on either card are added to the same credit card account and will be treated and appear no differently on your credit report than if you had a credit card account with only 1 physical card.

There is a review of the card here which explains it http://www.credit-card-comparison-on.../lloyds-tsb/airmiles-duo.asp

If you have a premier account you get more airmiles & a free partner ticket when you spend more than £15k per year.
