Discount Brokers questions

After reading article about discount brokers (sorry, as a new user I can't post links) I decided to put part of my savings in investment funds.
I am browsing Hargreaves Lansdown page and I have a few questions.

- First of all - what would be your recommendations about those things? Is there anything I should specifically avoid? I used to invest in funds and on the stock market (not in the UK), so I'm aware of the risk.

- I also have cash ISA in Alliance & Leicester, do I have to transfer it to Hargreaves Lansdown in order to open a shares ISA?

- I'm going to put about £500 and £50-£100 each month - do you think it's worth putting it in funds and is it possible to reasonably spread it between funds? If not, what would be the minimum to invest? It's not all I'm going to save - I'm also putting money in cash ISA, pension and CTF, so I'm not putting all eggs in one basket.

- Do you know how the interest is paid? Can it be automatically transferred to another account?

Any help appreciated.
