Hyundai i20 paintwork (look inside)

Hi all, I have a query. I bought an i20 last year in June. So it's roughly 10 months old. Done nearly 4k miles. It's been treated well as you'd expect for a new car. However, there is already rust showing up on parts of the car, around the joins etc. Parts of the paint has also chipped off around the joins of the boot and rear lights. It seems a poor design here has occurred because they definately couldn't have been caused by say a stone or anything else. I have 5year warranty as standard with Hyundai. I'm wondering what advice you guys could give me on how to handle this situation, because for a car this young in its life it seems a bit odd for it to have things like this occurring. Thanks, Mutty.

I might be missing something here, but why not just take it back to the dealer.

The car will also have an anti-corrosion warranty.

Ive wondered if those warranties are a bit optimistic - what a mess the company will be in if a lot of people have problems of one sort or another

this is their anti-perf warranty breakdown. http://www.hyundai.co.uk/owners/5YearWarranty/anti-perfWarranty/ It seems that the exterior surface isn't covered, or am I reading it incorrectly? Have a look. Cheers.

I haven't bothered to read that but I think all manufacturers paintwork waranties are similar and only cover rust penetration from surfaces that are not accessible from out side of the car, ie they cover such as inner side of roof, wings doors etc, so as to specifically outlaw damage caused by stone chips and scratches etc.

I had a real ding dong with Vx many years back. My 3 year old cavaliers windscreen started to lift. When we peeled it back it was one mass of rust. Eventually it was found to have 11 holes completely through the front edge of the roof. Evedently there was known issue at Vx where a sharp crease just under the seal didn't get painted properly and the seal rubbed against it.

It took forever and alot of wasted time to get Vx to accept liability and pay, they wouldnt accept that the area under the seal was not accessible,,but I did win out eventually.

    Good luck, ;)

Sounds to me like you may have a one off " lemon " there that has possibly been damaged before being sold, and poorly repaired.

I would get an expert opinion on it.

Agree, sounds like the car has been vandalised on the forecourt prior to sale, and repaired on the cheap. Happens all the time.

Meanwhile back in the real world, :p.

It was a brand new car, never seen a forecourt, please keep up, :wall::wall::wall:

Maybe not on the " forecourt " but new cars are often damaged before delivery to customers, which is what I expect has happened here.;)
