Bang sound when cold tap's turned on

i don't know whats happening but if anyone uses the cold kitchen tap then upstairs in the room where the boiler is there's a loud noise when the taps switched either on or off. Its really noisy and more like a big bang and not a knocking one. It doesnt happen when we use the bathroom cold tap.

I'm guessing its the pressure wrong or maybe the cold tap needs changing?? Any ideas anyone - is it a cheap job - please say it is:)

Could be something simple like the tap washer. These can make strange noises when worn, or even come loose.

ok, well i'll adjust the stopcock and if it doesn't stop i'll have to call a plumber - its so noisy that it wakes me up.

try turning the tap on a little at a time, really really slowly. if the jumper inside the tap is loose and worn theres a good chance the pipe and tap will start to vibrate or shudder.
