Ipod style mp3, mp4 players....

What are your opinions on ipod style mp3, mp4.... players?

I am thinking of buying something like that for my 6 yo son as a birthday present. I don't mind paying <£40, and you can get decent looking ones on ebay for this price. I would not pay £150 for an ipod touch and be worried about it getting lost or broken.

I know that original ipods will be the best, but how do these replicas compare?

I would want it for playing back avi movies, music, and maybe viewing pictures too.

well i got one for my DD when she was that sort of age, (was a while back) to be honest they are good enough for them at that age since she really didnt treat it very well

however instead of gettign a ipod clone why not get something that is different so you are not paying for the 'styling'

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    Any recommendations?

Like I said I have looked on ebay and there seem to be loads of different types, just had a look on ebuyer and also saw this.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159434

    or ebay something like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8GB-Slim-1-8-LCD-MP3-MP4-Radio-FM-Player-Ship-Free-Gift_W0QQitemZ150431091598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_MP3_Players?hash=item2306644b8e

too many to list on ebay.

well they look alright for the money, the only thing i would say to think about is if they are going to watch some video on it 1.8 inch screen is not very big so the one from ebuyer might be better in that regard

A colleague at work bought one of these for her son and he's happy with it.

They do an 8GB version as well.

    I wouldn't buy an iPod knock-off.

If you've only got around £40 to spend, you'd be much better off getting a decent mp3 player such as this:

It's not a question of wanting to buy an ipod knock-off, I just want to buy something with the same sort of functions as an ipod, but as it is only for a 6 year old, I don't want anything too expensive incase it gets lost or broken.

I just said the ones that look similar to ipods as they are the first ones I saw.

I am also looking at the possibility of getting a portable dvd player, with a usb or sd card input, instead of the ipod type device.

well a portable DVD player will be a bit better for watching movies etc with the bigger screen although more expensive usually most are above £70, and being something he cant just put in his pocket.

you must watch that you dont start justifying getting something more extensive because of one feature especially for a 6 year old who as you know have the attention span of a fish
