  • Keep all your margarine tubs/ ice cream tubs etc!
I find that the 500g packs are a good size to hold one portion of curry/bolog sauce etc. If you are anything like me it means that you have an interesting range of storage ware, but hey they were free :rotfl:

    It's only a game

I read on an american frugal site a year or so ago that to freeze meals for later, line the dish you intend to bake it in later with plastic wrap (with some surplus to wrap fully when frozen) and then layer dish as usual (with cold layers). That way when it is frozen you take it out of the dish and wrap the plastic wrap right around, now put it in a freezer bag and put back in freezer.

This means that when you want to heat up the food, you take it out of freezer bag (Which is still clean as hasn't touched food) and remove plastic wrap (meal is solid so that is okay) and place in the dish you were going to cook it in (and you will find it is the right shape as it was frozen like that).

Allow to defrost in fridge over night or during the day and cook as usual for dinner that night. That way all you pay for is the plastic wrap.

Nice one! Thanks for this! I have been using freezable plastic tubs but they are only microwaave-proof - not oven proof. Will be doing this from now on Zoe Girl - cheers!

If it is unclear and you want to try it, let me know.

This is what I do (having been taught by my stepmother) and it works brilliantly. :D I do think that the foil trays would be a false economy for me and I find them tricky to get clean.
  • I have a load of saved up plastic tubs for if i need to freeze things, and then i just ping them in the microwave. What i do find Foil Trays VERY good for, and i will be using them every year from now on, is Xmas lunch!!! Roasties etc even the Turkey gets done in them, so it HUGELY cuts down on washing up that you REALLY dont want to do on Xmas day, or boxing day for that matter LOL and then i bung em in the recycling box!:T

  • The whole top drawer of my freezer is full of stuff frozen in old chinese takeaway boxes! They are the perfect size for a two-person portion of bolognese, tomato sauce, curry etc. I loose freeze fruit and veg - veg gets put into freezer bags and goes into the bottom section whilst the fruit fills up yet more plastic boxes. Most of what I batch cook gets heated up on the hob rather than in the oven anyway, so this isn't a problem for me. I do occasionally cook double quantities of cauliflower or macaroni n(or a combination of the two!) cheese - in this case out comes the pyrex. The only time I use foil dishes is when we're on holiday - I always take four or 6 with me of a suitable size for roasting chicken and things like that. I'll be blowed if I'm going to spend time on hols scrubbing roasting pans! :rotfl:

  • Poundstretchers/Instore have Pyrex dishes on offer just now - that includes some of the smaller dishes with lids. Worth a look - I got a large pie dish for £1.99 and a large square roaster for £2.49.

I would imagine the smaller dishes are in the £2 and under range.
  • And genuine Pyrex has a 10 year guarantee - stick the label to a piece of paper, scan it and the receipt and file it away.

  • Hello Everyone.

Im probably posting in the wrong place, If so, Im sorry.

Ive been trying to buy small tin foil puddings dishes, (steak pudding size) to make lots of melt in the middle chocolate puddings for christmas.

I cannot find them anywhere unless I buy 2000+ from a catering supplier.

does anyone know where I can buy a smaller amount.

or, do you think if i used my tin ones as a mould. Do you think the tin foil would collapse when cooking
