Protecting desk surface

Have purchased the famous flat pack furniture of a hide away desk.

From previous experience with desks like this, the bottom of it wore away due to us putting our feet on the base of the desk when sat at it, bad habit and noticed i do it now with this one.

This new desk with it being hide away im concerned the pull out keyboard might start wearing away at the edge.

So anything i could fold over the edge of the pull out keyboard to protect it?

In terms of the base of the desk thinking of just adding a cushion onto the floor of the desk so our feet sit on the cushion.

Might be a dumb thread to some people but our previous desk looked horrid where it wore away, dont want it happening with this one.
