HSBC World Selection

I was hoping you guys could tell me your thoughts on the HSBC World Selection program.

I have never tinkered with managed funds before and I was wondering what the consensus on returns are and how well the fund is performing, whether the commissions are excessive etc

Thanks.

The only reason to buy it is if you have some affection to HSBC. There are better alternatives.

Buying from a bank is the most expensive distribution channel and the products of the banks tend to be lower quality. They dont have to be cheap or best because the typical bank customer seeing their sales reps isn't likely to shop around or know what is good or bad.

4% initial charge and well over 2% a year lost to charges and additional expenses. For that sort of money I'd prefer to be going with a manager with a decent track record rather than something that's just about managed average returns during one of the strongest recovery years the world markets have ever seen.

Give it a few years to see if it becomes more competitive, until then I personally am staying clear of it.
