Recycle bin and other problems

If I try to empty or look in my recycle bin my laptop seems to stop working - I get the never ending timer circle (in using Vista) I have tried deleting the recycle bin in safe mode and adding it back again after restarting but it hasn't helped. I've run Malwarebytes but it didn't reveal any problem.
Can anyone suggest a solution please?

Bypass the Recycle Bin by using SHIFT+DEL on files.0
