Refused refund of money

A friend has returned some goods unused to USC and they refuse to refund her debit card and will only offer USC voucher to the value of the goods... is it this legal? Can she demands a full refund back to her card?

If there is nothing wrong with the items, there is no obligation on the retailer to even give vouchers.

Not sure if it was defective or if she just wanted to return them to be honest, but if they are defective then surely she is within her rights to demand a refund to her card?

If they are defective then the shop can offer a replacement or refund (or even a repair in some cases). However if the goods are just being returned because your friend no longer wanted them or made a mistake when buying them, then the shop is not legally obliged to give anything. Most shops do out of goodwill only.
