I have a 7 year old Evesham PC on which the button on the DVD writer has become inverted so i can no longer open the drive.

My questions are as follows:

1) Is there anyway of fixing this? If so how?

2) If not how do I retrieve the dvd inside the drive? & is it easy to just purchase another DVD writer & replace? How much will this cost?

The existing DVD drive is a Sony DW-U14A.

Thanks for any response.

have you tried inserting a paper clip into the pinhole below the drive?
if its borked its easy enough to strip down the drive to retrieve the disc
while inside you can look and see if anythings jammed
DVD drives can go from a few quid upwards

Not knowing about the PC but I would hope/imagine that the Drive has a small orifice on the front which allows you to eject the disk when there is no power, insert a pin/bent paper clip etc,, also I would guess that you are using Xp so just look in explorer/file manager select the drive and right click eject.

Any new drives will probably cost be around £25 (but try google, or someone else will suggest 0-100 :D)

DVDRWs come apart fairly easily you just unplug the power and data cable

take out the 4 philips screws and it should just unclip apart
