Quick Question : Landlord disputing deposit

Hi there

Just got a rare curt text off our ex-private landlord saying 'disappointed by the state you left the flat in and will have to hire a professional cleaner to render the flat to an acceptable state'

Not what I find curious is that I actually forked out for professional cleaners once we left, bought (and left) the flat a dehumidifier due to the raising damp and, with the landlord's permission, installed more secure internal locks. He also did not go through an inventory of minor damage with us before we moved in despite two requests.

He's been fairly helpful in the past, reducing rent due to the damp, so I'm not sure if he's just chancing that we'll give up due to moving out of the area. He's also now hired a letting agency who kept turning up without informing us beforehand. So....what should I quote at him?

Cheers for your help x

What does the new letting agent have to do with anything? If you don't live there now, nothing at all.

Question 1 to answer: is your deposit protected in a scheme, and have you checked it?
  • Aye yeah. That's exactly what I thought. He brought up the letting agent actually saying he was going to use their cleaners... Checking the DPS now

  • lol an ex landlord of mine tried to get money off me for carpet cleaning when i'd had them professionally cleaned (they were old b4 i moved in!)

i forwarded a copy of the invoice from the firm and said, " i trust this clears up any misunderstanding over the cleaning. i expect to recieve my deposit back within the week" and i did :D
