How long should a pair of shoes last??

In early February I bought a pair of shoes, which I paid 40 odd quid for. Now I admit they have been worn a lot (around 3 times a week since I bought them) but on over the weekend I went to put them on to see that on one of them the sole has totally come away from the leather. They were from Evans (wide feet!) so not a cheapy pair, am I right to be a little p*ssed off? For that price I expected more than 8/10 weeks wear, or do thing just not last as long as they used too??

It's difficult to say, I manage to wreck shoes incredibly quick because I seem to walk on the side of my feet!
If there is a lot of wear on the bottom of the sole then I doubt they would offer a refund/replacement but worth a go - you don't have anything to lose!0 -
<6 months and they have to prove the fault wasn't present at time of sale - worth a go, what you got to lose?0

In repsonse to teh thread title it depends how often the shoes are worn0

I had a similar problem with Evans shoes, bought a pair of boots and they had holes in the bottom of the sole within 4/5 weeks, I did wear them pretty much every day but for £35 I would expect them to last a little longer than say a £5 pair I got from Primark!
They wouldn't give me a refund though because they were worn.trying to become a moneysaving student0 -
Nah. Evans shoes are the same as Primark's or Tesco's, just more expensive due to the need to accommodate bigger and fatter feet. It's a captive market.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

I tried this with Amazon as my waterproof shoes started failing after 11 and a half months (not worn every day, but maybe every other).
I received a full refund of £60 after sending them back (Amazon emailed a pre-paid postage label) as that particular shoe wasn't made any more so they couldn't replace them.
Great service, and after this I now fully expect any pair to last a year - if not, I'll be looking for a replacement (or refund it not available). Sale of goods, law of the land etc - why should shoes be exempt and expected to last only a few months?0 -
Thanks for all the replies, they aren't too worn on the soles so I think I might just give it a go!.

Can a cobbler fix them?0

I never even thought about taking them to see if they could be repaired
Although saying that they look pretty b*ggered to me, but hey its worth a go if I get no joy from Evans!
Thanks
