Receiving DLA does not entitle you to receive any rebate for CT. There is likely to be another reason that they don't pay anything.
If you have to use a wheelchair indoors, or if you have to have another bathroom or kitchen for the use of the disabled person, you can request that you get a disabled person's discount, which is usually the equivilent to dropping a band (that's what it is in our council). Before this rebate is given, my council sends round an inspector to check. You also have to sign every couple of years to confirm that the diosabled person is still living in the property.0 -

Can you be discontinued from council tax then from having mental health issue?

Not unless you meet the criteria for 'severely mentally impaired'.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. you may qualify for the 'disablilty premium' with rent and council tax benefits. DLA should not be included in their calculation either.
being in receipt of DLA does not mean you wont pay council tax, but you may geta better deal, as it where.usually if you are getting the higher rate.0 -
CIS, I wasn't sure if it was national - thanks for clarifying. I was also interested to read that people who are severely mentally impaired don't have to pay - is there a definition of this anywhere? My son has learning difficulties and other disabilities, and is likely to attend a day centre when he is older, as it is doubtful that he will be able to work. Hence the reason for my interest...0
