It is blatantly populist, but has a lot of appeal as a manifesto.

The lib dems seem to be the only party with a vision beyond the national insurance rise or public spending in 2010.

Just a shame they don't have the pockets of big business or the non-doms or the unions to fund a big campaign and finally break the flip flop between Labour and the Conservatives every time one of them messes things up.

  • LibDems cannot legislate to enforce what they are supposedly saying. It would never reach the statute book. That is the practical reality. Sorry for realism but I must be living with the fairies.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

They could ask the OFT to go to court again on a different basis - or they could arm twist the banks to 'do the right thing' or get an equivalent supertax imposed upon them?

All of this sounds great! It's a shame that the Lib Dems don't have a realistic hope of actually winning :(:(:(
mmmm, still seeking something witty to be my auto-signature . . . so this will have to suffice for now ;)

While I can appreciate where the healthy doses of cynicism come from in some of the previous posts on this thread, I still believe that a vote makes a difference and that while the Lib Dems may not have what it takes to win the election, they would be a very real force in the event of a hung parliament.

Several European countries have had effective coalition governments - if I opt to vote Lib Dem I genuinely believe that they would make good use of the leverage to be had in the aforementioned hung parliament situation to bring about some positive changes.

Unless I'm forgetting my political history entirely, the Lib Dems were at least partially responsible for the fact that I didn't pay tuition fees as a Scottish undergraduate? :o

Edit: don't quote me on that, I'm not a big fan of politics in general....

The LibDems might as well say they'll give everyone their own weight in gold, for all the chances they have of ever getting in.

Seriously, if they ever actually stand half a chance of winning they'll stop saying sensible stuff and be as evasive and cagey as the others.
