First I was a British Gas/Electric Customer, swithed to EDF in April
Got final bills Electric was bang on! Gas was not and came in at £138.31
Phoned British Gas up and they said they had been given an estimate by EDF
So Telephoned EDF and asked them why, they told me that they had give them the reading I had give EDF and the time of the switch, telephoned British Gas back and they would not move on the fact I owed them £138.31
Now I had the correct meter reading at this time, but they refused to accept it?
To cut it short, they said any outstanding balance would roll over if I went back with them, so I did.
That was 3 months ago, now just found out I have been paying into a 'new' accounts Britsh Gas have set up, not the old ones!!!!
They want the full amount of the old account and warning of Court Action
(Great how they treat retuning customers eh?)
Now my Question is if the meter reading for the Gas Account was estimated why are they still asking for full amount??
k.

If you are ripping your hair out you should save money on haircuts, yes?
Seriously. Get all you bills together and check you have not been double billed for any usage. If you have then photocopy the bills and send to BG, demand your money and threaten to go to the regulator. If you have not been double billed for any then you have only lost the price difference on the disputed usage. Annoying but not intergalactic sized sums. Just move from BG and never go back.

Should have stayed with EDF and asked them to raise a read dispute. Or give your correct readings to EDF and ask them to resend the final reading to Bgas so that they can be correctly billed. Unfortunately now its a longer process not worth the hassle and you may as well cut your losses and move supplier.0

Moving back to BG was a major mistake and won't help matters at all. Not least because BG are ridiculously expensive.
All you needed to do, as Gal stated, was to FORCE EDF to recognise the correct changeover reading. BG will bill on the basis of what EDF tell them, not based on what you tell them.
Most suppliers ask the consumer for a changeover reading; even if they don't, it's common sense to get one yourself in case they don't take one.0 -
Thanks very much for your reply's!
I just feel so angry and let down by British Gas!
I have emailed them via thier complaints webpage, it says they will get back to me in 24 hours (3 hours remaining, no email just yet!)
If they do nothing who can I complain to?
The chap at BG compliants dept just did not care, and told me 'bet you feel miffed' !!!!!!!
I will get my accounts cleared with BG and move away, never to go back.
I have been bit, will be twice shy with BG.If you want to see a rainbow, you have to get used to the rain.0 -
If you have complained to BG and not got anywhere, you can refer your complaint to Energywatch or the Energy Ombudsman. Those links contain advice on what they would normally advise you to do before contacting them.0
