Pmt

:(

I'm suffering a bit today (sometimes it hits me worse than others) Has anyone any good suggestions about what to do when you are feeling very low with PMT? The only things I can think of to cheer myself up involve spending lots of money.... booking a holiday, buying clothes, getting hair done :D Unfortunately no money, or space on the credit cards!!!

Sorry to hear you're suffering downcdebt - the only thing that works for me is exercise - could you maybe go for a 20 minute run, or even just a walk round the block? Do you have somewhere quiet at home you could do some yoga stretches? Swimming is good, but a lot of faff when you're not feeling well. Hope you feel better soon.

thanks, i am going to take your advice and go have a look at the local gym. its a council one so hopefully it wont be too expensive.... just hard to motivate yourself when feeling down, even though you know that it will probably help!

I used to use that time to go mental with the housecleaning and decluttering...

Can't really do that now, but working out my anger whilst vacuuming really helped, then when i had worn myself out, a nice soak in the bath with a good book.

When I am feeling down I always wash my hair, somehow looking nice makes me feel better.

I found adding more calcium to my diet lessened the pain from cramps and that a supplement containing evening primrose helped with my mood (although I just make sure I eat plenty of nuts and seeds instead now).

Hope it doesn't last too long.

I always used to have a long bath, the hot water helped with the cramps and I'd get chance to finish a book which takes ages usually!

Like Mrs Thrifty said, spend a bit of time making yourself feel nice, I would pluck my eyebrows, do my nails etc which get neglected the rest of the month. Exercise never did much for me, feeling sweaty, out of breath, bloated and sluggish all at the same time is not a fun combination!

Now I'm on Depo and haven't had a period for nearly a year, any chance you could talk to your doc about controlling the PMT symptoms somehow?

Ok? yes me too? that time. Today I am having a clear out of my clothes. Thinking to myself...Why do I waste good money on items thay just look horrid on me? Charity bag out and slowly filling it.

I made myself a promise at the begining of winter to buy only clothes on a need to have, like work black trousers for example. That way I will have space and not a crampt wardrobe. I am now at the stage whare I can get some summer clothes out of a saver vaccuum bag to ring the changes in season.

Little things you can do at home inbetween running to the bathroom.
I washed my hair and put on nice clothes. Navy skirt and plum colour top.
They are in my colours so look cool even if I,ve had them a wile.
Have some ME time and the week will soon pass.

thanks again for all your suggestions. i have just come back from the gym and a bums n tums workout - hell, i wont be able to walk tomorrow...i thought it would be gentle, but there i was with weights hanging off me!!
now will start to tidy up...

Im sure the docs would be fine giving me some anti depressants - i've been on them before - but have been trying to get on with things without them. for some reason i feel a bit reluctant to take them again, not sure why. suffer quite bad from depression, and i think the pmt on top just makes things worse...

i never quite understand why some people never ever get depressed, while for others it seems to follow them around for their life!!

  • I suffered from pms for years - breast pain for a fortnight, serious aggression, tears and all the rest. I found a book in my local library called "Overcoming PMS the natural way" by Dr Marilyn Glenville and it's been the saving of me (as well as my poor husband!). Do try and get hold of a copy - I'm a new person since changing my diet and taking vitamin/mineral supplements.
