Seeking advice re dishwasher purchase

Hi,
I am new to the forum so if I am posting in the wrong place or the wrong thing just let me know.
I am looking for some advice regarding my rights regarding a fully integrated dishwasher I purchased in November 09. I bought it via the internet using a credit card. Unfortunately the kitchen fitter we organised didn't complete the job and didn't get to unpacking or installing the DW. We have just got round to restarting the kitchen and after unpacking the DW at the weekend read the installation guide which stated max cabinet door size is 10mm smaller than ours (a standard wickes kitchen). We rang up the manufacturer (AEG Electrolux) thinking they'd had a solution. They say it is nothing to do with them and we should go back to the retailer. Any advice regarding consumer rights or a solution excluding cutting the door down would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I suspect your options on returning it are very limited. The dishwasher isn't faulty - you simply chose the wrong one to fit your kitchen, and there is no obligation on either retailer or manufacturer to resolve your mistake. (Given that AEG/Electrolux put their full specs and manuals online its going to be easy for them to argue you should have checked). Similarly with the credit card company. The fact that you've sat on it for 6 months also doesn't help.
You therefore need to think of ways to resolve the problem. That might mean flogging that one on ebay and getting one that does fit. The other option is finding a way to make the door fit. I'm guessing that the problem is the height. 10mm is one centimetre so its possible it might work anyway - the issue is almost certainly that the foot of the door will clash with the base of the dishwasher or the plinth in front of it. Its possible that simply not putting a plinth in front of the base might give you enough room - alternatively you are going to have to cut 10mm off the bottom of the door.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
If it is height and its simply the plinth, just cut a wide notch out of the plinth for it to pass through. This was in the instructions for my Ikea dishwasher, and I've seen it done in other kitchens too. You may also have some adjustments to do on the balance of the door so that it stays open but shuts correctly, as if your door is bigger than spec, it may also be heavier. The dishwasher should allow you to do this, as no doors will ever be the same weight.0

Cutting the plinth is the common solution.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

i get this often. dishwashers that only allow 725 doors to sweep under the body of the machine. if this is the problem, you have to lower the appliance. we usually fix a planed 2x1 to the underside of the worktop in line with the end of the units. line this with sticky back foil to protect it, then the door will fit under. the only thing is the door template will have to be adjusted.
also the plinth will have to be cut a little 10 - 15 mm0 -
Thanks for the advice. The door is catching on the bottom on the dishwasher so it looks like lowering the diswasher and adjusting door up the dishwasher is the answer. BTW, I have searched and searched for the door size information on the AEG website without success. AEG customer services don't say it is on their website, they say go to the retailer. The retailer we bought it from say they don't know and wouldn't be able to advise which dw to buy. If you go to the Miele website it is brilliant as you put in the door height etc and it advises which range is compatible. I'm not very impressed with the AEG/Electrolux "customer services".0
