I HATE working for the bank!!!! :o(

Rather work for the cleansing department at my local council, than work for a bank. As the tax payers are paying most of the bank staff's wages at the moment, I guess you could say it is another form of dole?? But you shuffle papers around - wouldn't use the word work, in these circumstances!!:D
Not sure about your line of thinking but being on the dole is nothing like working for a bank. You have to wake up before 9 AM and finish by 5 PM unlike being on the dole where all you do is moan about this and that and how life is so unfair and it's everyone else's fault you're on the dole (speaking for the average person on JSA that is).
Anyway, I saw loads of banking jobs listed on Directgov so perhaps the stretching targets are the reason why this is the case?0 -
I appreciate this job may not be a good fit for you. I am reading however
a) you are late quite often, which is a problem as they need staff in and ready to open up
b) you need time off when your child is ill
c) you have started to need time off ill yourself
Can you see how this may be a problem for your employer at all?
When I say I can be late I am only talking about a couple of minutes and as an interviewer, not a cashier, it doesnt affect the branch opening at all. Also, I have suggested that they change my hours to 9.15am as I cannot get in much earlier due to the drop off time at nursery - but they have never done anything because they know that cutting my hours slightly means cutting my target as it is salary related.
I have rarely needed time off when my children are ill either as I have family that are able to help out but what I meant was that is the only time that it childcare has had an impact - I have never not been able to go to work because I have had nobody to look after them.
Yes I do need time off ill at the moment and I know it isnt ideal in the eyes of my employer but maybe if they treated their staff a bit better they wouldnt have so many staff feeling this way!
I am not being jumpy with you thought because I can see that you were trying to get me to view it from my employers eyes but at the moment I dont see much beyond getting from day to day and trying to think of a way out of banking!0 -

Dear me:o:o0 -
a couple of minutes YOU are granted may have a very bad effect on morale for all the people who have to be here on time.
That aside - have you made a formal request, in writing, for family friendly hours?Debt free 4th April 2007.

I think you are being a bit myopic about it sadly. Just because you suggest they change your hours because it suits you, if they do nothing about it, that may not be because they don't want to(to reduce your targets etc etc). It's more about setting precedents. What if everyone else then decides they want to turn up a bit late for personal reasons. Or all change their hours. Allowing one employee the leeway creates implications for any employer bank or not.0 -

Stebiz!!! Somebody just had to didnt they!!! Dont believe everything you read in the papers! Dont you think from the way I am feeling and other posters on this thread have felt, working for banks that we are more than paper pushers?! There is a hell of a lot of stress and pressure put on us and we are personally not the people that have ripped people off!!!
But this attitude that you have just adds to the stress for us staff!! I get NO job satisfaction - customers hate coming to see me - to the point where some of them are quivering wrecks!! where is the enjoyment in that??
Don't do it then! Leave. Get a job elsewhere in a profession with morals. With an employer who respects what you are doing. Have respect for yourself.
My judgement does not come from what I read in the press, but what I have read in books. Books written by individuals who know a great deal about the banking system.
Banks move money around. Billions and Billions of pounds of the stuff a day. They have cheap access to money through the Bank of England and savers, and even when times are good they have to lower their values, and sting good people for bank charges, in order to make the bulk of their profits.
I accept that 'you' have not personally ripped anybody off, however these banks have little respect left. You are not going to be treated any better by your employer, and the publics opinion will take decades to change - if ever. Use your qualifications and knowledge to move on and find something you enjoy. Life isn't a dress rehearsal!!

It wouldnt affect the morale for the worse of any reasonable minded fellow employee - as they would just tell themselves "Hmmm....she was able to get in late - but then she DOES make up the time by staying late...so it all works out okay." If they're not reasonably-minded - then why bother about what they think anyway?0 -

OP- you also mentioned children off sick, whilst I realise this can't be helped, has it been a lot recently? Also when does your youngest go to f-time school would the few minutes late change when this happens?0 -

No I cant remember the last time my work was affected by one of my children bring poorly!! The only time quite recently that it has been affected was when I was totally snowed in to the village and the school was closed so I was unable to get in - only one day during the big freeze though!! Not bad considering I live in a rural village very high up!
Can anybody actually advise me on where to go from here?? Do I sign up with agencies or send companies my CV even if they arent advertising postitions?! It has been SO long since I applied for a job that I dont know where to start and I know alot has changed since then with regards to job availablility!
Job for today I think..... update CV!0 -

no applications until you have decided what you want to do, or you'll go off like a scattergun. you knw what you don't want to do, time to get positive about your preferred choices.
