sounds like you are having a horrible time, if you were in a relationship that was making you feel like this you would be looking to end it I guess and while it is not easy I agree with those who have said that starting to formulate a plan to get out may help you feel a bit more in control. Maybe make a list of the pros and cons of your current job just to help clarify your thoughts and help you feel less stressed, I know it helps me to get things down on paper. Then do another list of things that you really enjoy and all the talents and skills you have, hopefully this will help you feel a bit more positive. Sorry I can't offer anything more useful, but good luck anyway.0

9 years !!! Wow, I lasted 6 months in banking before loosing the will to live, the final straw was being shafted on the annual bonus, even though our team shattered the team targets, and I had the highest figures over all the over staff even though I hadn't done a full year we were expecting 3-4k but received £600.
The day after the bank announced record profits, the same day as I resigned.0 -
You havew my every sympathy, I am in a similar situation although different job, I used to be a nurse but have ended up in sales for the last 5 years and I have got to the point now where I hate my job, the stress of what amounts to unachieveable targets is just proving too much, making me ill and a cow to live with for my oh and poor kids.
Un fortunately, I am on a great wage and earn 8k more than my hubby, there is no chance of him getting a higher paid job as he works in a specialist government area and the wages are what they are.
So for some time I have been toying with what to do, knowing we would struggle just on oh's wage, I am planning on probably going back into nursing and just working part time, this is going to mean a 70% drop in salary but to be honest, I'm at the point where money is not important, I would rather have nothing spare for any luxuries and just be able to go to work, do my job and come home and enjoy my family without all the extra stress I get from my boss
Life is too short to stress like this and be in a job you hate and that is making you illAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00 -
I work for one of the big banks and am coming up to my 10 year anniversary. One of the bonuses about working for them is that there are many different roles that you can look at. Sometimes we focus on our own role and forget that there are 000s of employees. Have you had a look at the jobs board at all?
I used to work in the branch network and moved into a head office role dealing with complaints that I loved and now work as a business analyst. don't forget about all of the great skills that you learn as a PB - negotiation, influencing, analyzing, investigation, building a recommendation etc etc.

Good luck!
Rather work for the cleansing department at my local council, than work for a bank. As the tax payers are paying most of the bank staff's wages at the moment, I guess you could say it is another form of dole?? But you shuffle papers around - wouldn't use the word work, in these circumstances!!:DAsk me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

I did that once, I moved from cashiering to a new role they were developing which was more in branch, directing people who to see that best met their needs, and customer enquiries. Trouble was, we were still short staffed on the cashiering front. So all the "regulars" who knew me as a cashier had a go at me for not being behind the desk when they knew I could do it, and everyone else had a go at me for the same reason (even though they didn't know I could do it).
"How can I help you today?" usually got the response "You can't. Why aren't all the cashier positions full? Can't you go back there? I don't need to see anyone out here, you're a complete waste of time" Lovely.
I lasted about 2 months before going back to cashiering as the remaining staff were struggling and I was the second most experienced cashier in there.
At least I had the protection of the glass again :rotfl:Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -
The problem with the banks now is that I dont think it matters what postion you are in, you are still under lots of pressure to achieve unrealistic targets!!
Previous to working for this bank, I worked for..... a different bank!! in a Telesales role for 5yrs!!! (must be mad I know) so all in all I have been working in banking, selling loans etc for 14yrs!!
My update today is that the doctor has signed me off for another week! I am going to see him on Wednesday next week. I seem to have lots of symptoms but not all of them relate to stress so we will see how I get on!
I have told my boss who was surprisingly fine! He reminded me that I am on a coaching plan again this quarter and that if I dont hit target I will be on a Formal plan which is just what I needed to hear! He said that he is feeling under alot of pressure as head office are insisting on daily teleconferences at 4.45pm every day to say what you have and havent done that day - he said he feels bullied! My boss was off sick for 8mths last year with stress too!
I dont know where I am going to go from here though because it still doesnt solve the problem that one day I will have to go back.
Stebiz!!! Somebody just had to didnt they!!! Dont believe everything you read in the papers! Dont you think from the way I am feeling and other posters on this thread have felt, working for banks that we are more than paper pushers?! There is a hell of a lot of stress and pressure put on us and we are personally not the people that have ripped people off!!!
But this attitude that you have just adds to the stress for us staff!! I get NO job satisfaction - customers hate coming to see me - to the point where some of them are quivering wrecks!! where is the enjoyment in that??
milliemonster - Good luck to you hun! it does sound like we are both in a very similar situation and my fiance agreed last night that he is going to ask for a payrise - and a decent one at that! That would then take the pressure off me to earn at the same level and I may be able to take a lower paid job - but I havent got a clue what yet - if there is any out there!!!0 -
I appreciate this job may not be a good fit for you. I am reading however
a) you are late quite often, which is a problem as they need staff in and ready to open up
b) you need time off when your child is ill
c) you have started to need time off ill yourself
Can you see how this may be a problem for your employer at all?Debt free 4th April 2007.

I can see how you being late would be a problem. Every employer I've ever worked for disregards the how many minutes you are late out of the door if you are often late coming in (I don't mean occassional unforseeable stuff). What's the problem with the time you are meant to start, childcare or transport problems? Has your employer come back to you about the 9.15 start. The thing is and I've seen it happen is if a is starting to be a problem then the minor niggles of b, c and d wouldn't even be mentioned it's just when they are snowballed together.0
