Have I been had?

I bought 2 gig tickets for September on March 22nd. The listing advised that the seller would post next day recorded as soon as he got the tickets. I paid same day via paypal and he sent me back 'proof of purchase' in a file format my Mac doesn't recognise and can't open (.wps).

So I mailed back asking if he could send a .doc or a .jpg screenshot as I am on a Mac. On the 25th he replied saying the tickets have come, I'll post them today. (Which seemed odd as the gig is months away and Ticketmaster, which is where he said he bought them, don't usually send them out so early).

On the 5th April I realise I didn't get the tickets (I've been on holiday) so I opened a dispute via ebay. He mails back a day later saying his mother's had a heart attack, no time to post, etc, which seems a bit convenient to me? Anyway he reckons he will post them today to rec tomorrow (we will see).

I managed to use an online file converter to open the attachment which is just a few words - 'Ticketmaster reference" and a girl's name, no booking details, nothing (I've bought via Ticketmaster before and you get a lot more than this). Ticketmaster won't check the reference for me as I'm not her.

So, I tapped his name into google and he comes up on Facebook with this girl listed as his fiance - they've literally just gotten engaged. No mention of his poor sick mother?

Seems very fishy to me. I am going to have to give it 2 days to see if any tickets turn up (and if they are real) but I feel so wary I would have preferred a refund. Serves me right I suppose for trying to get tickets to a sold out gig via ebay :(

Bereavements, seriously ill relatives, house fires, computer faults seem much more frequent with some Ebay sellers than for most of us.

As you say if the gig is September tickets (if he has any) will probably not be issued until much nearer the gig. I suspect he has emailed an order confirmation. He should only really sell tickets once he actually has them.

Your problem is that after 45 days from the date of buying you cannot open a claim and get your money back via Paypal. As he says he now has the tickets if they don't arrive in a few days, I would open a claim, get my money back and leave appropriate feedback.

Incidentally recorded is not sufficient for tickets which should be sent by Special Delivery.

Watch out that he doesn't send you an empty recorded envelope, just so something has arrived with a tracking number.

You need to open a PAYPAL claim, not just an ebay one to get your money back if the tickets don't arrive. You need to do this within 45 days of auction end.

They are the same, just look different.

The OP has already opened one, you can't have both open at the same time, and ebay being ebay, when they close one I wouldn't be surprised if they closed both by accident.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Won't matter. It's more than 7 days since payment, so anything posted now is invalid for seller protection anyway.
