Welsh Recipes?
Options
I want to do a 3 or 4 course dinner party meal which is all traditional welsh recipes.. including a starter and a dessert... as a celebration of my boyfriend moving here permanently from the USA next week.
I've got to say I don't know a lot about traditional welsh cuisine despite being born here and living here all my life..
Does anyone know of any suggestions, recipes, websites etc. or hints and tips about making it a tradtional/authentic welsh evening?
Obviously on a budget and in the spirit of MSE, money saving tips to go about it too!

if you get stuck you could always use traditional recipes but made with good quality local ingredients. lamb/beef/lava bread/fish being the most obvious
traditional stuff? cant beat a good cawl (soup to everyone else), not sure of that would work in this weather though. welsh cakes, bara brith... mmm yum!
how about a bbq with a welsh twist? or a picnic? its nice to eat al fresco seeing as the weather is so good at the mo :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
i don't know how good a cook you are, but if you are a beginner have a go at glamorgan sausages. you can't beat them for ease of prep and results.
http://www.sausagelinks.co.uk/recipe_detail.asp?id=37 careful with the mustard powder though.
lol
good luck.
you could serve them with mashed potato in a BIG dollop in the middle of the plate, and stick 3 sausages out the top like antennae. then add some caramelised red onions (gently fry with only a spot of oil - add sugar and stir when they nearly brown) put them on the top.
FInally - I would add a white sauce - like creamy parsley and serve with peas, green beans, carrots etc round the bottom.
if you would rather an onion gravy that might work too? IMPORTANT - don't tip the sauce on the sausages, only on the potato ... good luck0
