'Private landlords' presumably means that the whole arrangement is undeclared, unregulated and illegal.

I am the other person who shares the flat with Palmer89. What it means by 'private landlord' is not that it is a sneaky operation and is illegal, it just means that it isnt a company landlord but someone who only rents out one place.

We have had contracts drawn up and all the legal stuff was done when we started renting around 8 months ago so it isnt anything dodgy.

EDF have down in thier records that the property is rented out because when i called they stated that. I think the landlord keeps it in his name to avoid confiusion with bills etc as they are not experienced and, as Palmer89 stated, they are no longer renting after us.

I took the reading of the meter again today and told EDF what it is so a new bill is on its way out. When we get it we will send it onto the landlord and pay what we owe.

Until then, all there is to do is wait.

EDF stated that the bill will be amended and then the account will be credited, does this mean that the balance that was paid incorrectly will be used towards future bills? Or does it mean that the landlord can claim a refund?

Hi Palmer89 & Stephi - Different suppliers deal with credits in different ways, but often the erroneous bill still stands and then they issue a further bill on which the the previous bill is listed as outstanding, but then adjusted by a credit.

Somehow this thread seemed to get lost in a discussion of tenancy legalities, but getting back to the original question it appears that tho' you have ECO 7, you don't use the storage radiators or power to fill your tank with hot water overnight.

ECO 7 is a swings and roundabouts tariff - The upside is that you get cheap power overnight for the Storage Radiators & Hot Water, but the downside is that your Daytime use is appx. 50% dearer for Prime Units and 11% dearer for Secondary units, than a standard meter.
    All the best
