Spoddy is sort of geeky but in a plane spottery sort of way rather than in a computer geeky sort of way. BA flight from Vancouver has landed :) so life hopefully can return to normal now. I have a lot of customers stuck abroad and DD has several friends and teachers stuck, so it became more personal today.
  • Ahh I see, a geeky thing! I certainly hope things go back to normal, I understood Glasgow airport closed at lunchtime today again and it looks like we'll get a big blob of ash cloud overnight, certainly over Scotland. I have a friend stuck in New Zealand, her travel agents have rescheduled her flight for 6th May and a headmistress friend stuck in Aus, she should have been back at school yesterday! And of course, our very own Amber not being able to get here and see her family... hope you're feeling a bit better Amber, fingers crossed you get your flight and get over to lots of warm family hugs.

we have just had DHs aunt come to pick up her car after holiday in spain. should have been here saturday. she has had an amazing journey cross country using all local transport due to all the "big ones" being booked up and expensive.
they just took whatever they could wherever they could that seemed to be going in the right direction and eventually made it from madrid to calais and got on a ferry.
    was a really interesting story.
Toots that sounds really frustrating but hopefully will crystalise things and move in the right direction. glad you came and ranted. definitely your turn. Hugs

  • Evening Jo! Thanks for the hugs. As I always say, nothing happens but for a reason, in retrospect we should perhaps have moved DS to another club a couple of years ago, this will probably just be the kick up the behind we needed!

Sounds like your DH's aunt had quite an adventure! Hope she thought of it as an extra to her holiday, sounds like it may well have been a lot of fun.

Think she's exhausted but will remember it in a fairly good way. when they got to the french border they were ushered on a train at a shut down station by a ticket officer who appeared out of nowhere. they said they had no tickets but she just said get on. there were a lot of people in similar situation.
then when they got to bordeaux an announcement said those with no tickets get off and on the train that would soon arrive. they did and again were told not to worry about no tickets. eventually arrived in paris and were not asked for tickets on getting off. it was very clearly known that lots of people would not have tickets and that was accepted.
next they decided it was too late to try and find a hotel so were going to stay on station overnight. they got tickets to lille and calais and waited. station police arrived and asked where they were going and told them to go to the platform and directed them.
they were trying to find a comfy place when the police came back and appeared to be moving them on. turns out they opened up the train for them to sleep on and kept a guard there too. so they had comfy warm night with toilets handy and lights etc.
that all astounded me although I don't think it was the most adventurous bit.

Toots - I reckon if they had handled it better it would have been harder to leave and move on. Good for your DS though he's obviously very talented.

Hi all! My site has been running for about a month now and its been doing well. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about backlinks and how to obtain them.

I am gettign recipricol links but they are two way. I wanted to know if anyone knows a good way to obtain a one way link to my site.

I am running a competition where someone can win something and want more people to enter so am hoping if i get a backlink that might get people from other sites to visit us as well as buy from us
  • Hi Precious

My Day job is as an seo - and getting backlinks is a very difficult and time consuming skill.

What you need to do is to work out what you can give someone (other than a link) to give them reason to link to you.

without knowing your niche it would be hard to work out what that could be though.
